As a dietitian I believe "all foods fit" into a diet that includes moderation and physical activity.
My goal is to help you become healthier through the foods you have always loved. As a mother of two I understand that life can be chaotic and food and nutrition can be overwhelming. I want to help take the stress away from food and help it nourish you and your family.
I would also like to help you manage chronic disease and understand it! Foods play such a big role in how diseases work. Learn how food can help you manage symptoms and feel better!
Growing up in a Dominican family, food was always part of life. My mom was a stay at home mom and we literally ate rice and beans everyday. Having plantains, rice, beans, yuca, pork, chicken, and all the other delicious island foods was part of life. I always said I wanted to be a pediatrician and when I went off to college I actually started out Pre-Med. During my first semester at PennState I took my first nutrition class and fell in love, I realized right there and then that I wanted to be on the preventative side of health. I knew that people did not have to stop eating the foods they loved in order to be "healthy" and I also wanted to help those that have chronic disease still enjoy those foods.
I graduated from PennState University with a Bachelors Degree in Nutritional Sciences. I then went on to Immaculata University to complete my Dietetic Internship and Masters Degree in Nutrition Education. I love nutrition because frankly I LOVE food. Food is meant to nourish us and give us energy, but in this day an age it seems to be causing more stress than anything else. Our lives revolve around food, all special occasions and celebrations revolve around food. You cannot get away from it. I am a firm believer that we should not deprive ourselves and what we should be doing is learning to incorporate the foods we love into our daily lives. My goal for you is to never diet again!
I also know first hand how managing a family, working and having a social life can be exhausting. I am very honest with my approach to nutrition. And my hope for you is to leave each session with a tool you can use and a goal that is achievable. You cannot change your whole life in a day, so taking small steps towards a healthy life is the key to be successful.
